Andy Goldsworthy
Andy Goldsworthy is a land artist who uses all natural materials, such as leaves and ice, to create his pieces. Goldsworthy understands that life is transient as it is short and translates this into his artwork, he describes nature as harsh, brutal and disturbing with his artwork being made by the different elements and landscapes and do not stay there for a long time as it'll soon be destroyed by the change in climate, season or weather condition. His artwork represents life as it is temporary, much like his pieces, and one day neither him or his work will be around for people to see anymore, only the memory of him and his message.
"We often forget that WE ARE NATURE. Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection with nature, we've lost our connection to ourselves." - And Goldsworthy
In this quote from Goldsworthy you can understand his appreciation for nature and that when he's creating his pieces he's working with it and not using it to manipulate or change it.

The Hanging Tree
This sculpture has received a permanent home at Yorkshire Sculpture Park for it's 30th anniversary. The sculpture to me represents how that the power of mankind can contain nature from growing and blossoming. The stone walls are well made and look neat which gives the impression that they are manmade, they act as a cage to the tree and imprison it from growing to it's full lengths. The walls on this piece can represent the take over of mankind over nature and how we're loosing respect for nature and it's space by building in the countryside therefore leading to the pollution of the air.
