Alan Shapiro
Alan Shapiro
Alan Shapiro is an award-winning photographer and an advertising chief creative officer. After working with many photographers in his advertising career, Shapiro at first started photography as a distraction in his 'stress filled life' but it soon turned into a passion in which he is now consumed. Alan explores many different themes in photography, however i believe that his 'Moments in the Monochrome Garden' is some of his best work. This is where he investigates plants and nature in a monochrome effect, it is also macro and due to this effect it is very similar to Karl Blossfeldt's work. The photographs which Alan has taken show the plants in much more detailed way, this entices you in and then you become intrigued to look at more. From the photographs in 'Moments in the Monochrome Garden' that Alan has taken, i believe that he was heavily inspired by Karl Blossfeldt. This is because the photo's have a 'metallic' and very close-up feel which was exactly what Blossfeldt did to achieve his work, Alan also used simple backgrounds which is another thing that Blossfeldt used to make the plant the complete focus of the photograph. The style and technique to creating Blossfeldt inspired images is to take an organic looking plant and change it to look unoriginal and unusual.
